I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland before coming to New Hampshire to attend Dartmouth College where I was Co-captain of the Varsity Sailing Team. After four years in rural New Hampshire I landed directly in West Philadelphia to attend medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. My wife Kate and I then moved to Rochester, New York where I completed my residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center in 2000. During our 5 years in Rochester, we welcomed our sons, Ben and Chad.
Following residency, I proudly served seven years in the United States Navy. I was head of the departments of orthopedic surgery during tours at the Naval Hospitals in Charleston, South Carolina and Bremerton, Washington. While in Charleston I also was selected to be Chief of the Medical Staff. During my military career, I was fortunate to care for both active duty and retired military personnel, gaining valuable experience in helping patients of all ages maintain an active lifestyle.
After separating from the Navy in 2007, I spent the best year of my life. Just after Labor Day we set off from Puget Sound in our sailboat. We spent 6 months sailing down the west coast to Panama. We traversed the Panama Canal on Easter Sunday and ended up in South Bristol, Maine in late July of 2008. Our boys were 9 and 11 during that year and we spent time fishing, snorkeling, playing Rummy and doing a little bit of home schooling.
In August 2008 we moved to New York City where I completed the Sports Medicine Fellowship at NYU’s Hospital for Joint Diseases. That year was a fantastic opportunity for all of us. I got excellent training and the boys had the opportunity to spread their wings a bit as middle schoolers in Manhattan.
After 25 years of moving frequently, we began our search for a place to have our kids call home. Preferably somewhere where we could get outdoors, sail, and ski. When we saw the advertisement for Seacoast Orthopedics, we thought it might fit the bill. One of our best college friends grew up in Dover and we could picture a life there. We moved to Dover in the summer of 2009, and have been very happy here.
My surgical practice focuses on arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder and knee, including cartilage restoration, knee ligament reconstruction, shoulder instability, and labral repair and rotator cuff repair. Over the years I have also developed a very busy total knee replacement practice. I find it so rewarding to watch my patients get back to the activities they love after years of arthritic knee pain.
Kate and I have downsized to an apartment in Dover. Ben returned to New York and graduated from NYU. Chad graduated from Caltech in Pasadena and is currently living in Salt Lake City, UT.
I see patients at our locations in Somersworth and Lee and perform surgery at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover and at Wentworth Surgery Center in Somersworth
